Tan Ter Cheah is a multifaceted professional whose career spans law, writing, training, and public speaking. Called to both the Singapore and New York Bars, she has built a distinguished career spanning over two decades across top-tier firms, including KPMG, White & Case, Khattar Wong & Partners, Baker & McKenzie, and the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore. She is also a Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants, giving her a rare dual competency in both legal and financial disciplines.
She is also the published author of “ONE”, shortlisted for the Best Young Adults’ Title at the Singapore Book Awards 2016, and which is loosely based on her experience with soft-tissue cancer as a child which led to her having her right leg amputated. Intended as a children’s book, with the underlying theme of “picking yourself up” in the face of life’s challenges, Ter Cheah is touched when adults have shared that the book has encouraged them. Ter Cheah is regularly invited to schools to speak on topics such as empathy for others, resilience and grit. The National Library Board has translated “ONE” into Bahasa Melayu, Tamil and Chinese and these hard-cover versions are available for borrowing from its libraries. “ONE” is also available in Thailand in the Thai language.
Having trained for and taken Trinity College of Music London Speech and Drama graded examinations since young, then teaching speech and drama to children during her law school days, to undertaking emceeing and facilitator roles at her different workplaces, Ter Cheah is pleased to also be an accredited Think On Your Feet® trainer, conducting classes in person and over zoom.
Ter Cheah finds volunteering with the Children’s Cancer Foundation, singing in choirs, and jigsaw puzzling meaningful.
